Chris Parker is running for Board of Equalization to put his expertise as a tax attorney to work on behalf of hard-working taxpayers.

As a member of the Board of Equalization, Parker will help level the playing field that gives tax cheats a competitive advantage while honest businesses and taxpayers foot the bill. Parker will work to streamline the state’s bureaucracy and implement new technology to help ensure tax scofflaws are brought to justice. And he will provide taxpayers the assurance they will receive a fair hearing before the state’s tax “court.”

Chris Parker's interest in public service began at an early age when he worked difficult jobs in order to help his family make ends meet.  A product of humble beginnings, he believes in fairness, integrity and rewarding those who work while holding accountable those who cheat.  Raised by a single mother, Chris is determined to make a difference in the lives of those who work hard yet struggle to provide for their families.

As an attorney with California’s Franchise Tax Board, Chris Parker has a record of prosecuting tax cheats and collecting millions in taxes owed to fund California’s schools, parks, roads and other vital services. Chris received an award from the Franchise Tax Board for his ideas that save the state money by adding efficiency and improving service to taxpayers.

Chris is a nationally recognized expert in California’s complicated tax laws. Regularly called upon to share his knowledge with attorneys across the country, Chris Parker will put his expertise to work to make the tax system work better for middle-class families.

Chris is active in his community of Sacramento, helping to clean up the American River Parkway, feeding the homeless, and collecting toys for foster kids in need. He has also volunteered his time preparing tax returns for low-income families through the Volunteer Income Tax assistance program.

Committed to rewarding hard work and innovation, Chris has served on a number of special committees within the Franchise Tax Board to improve productivity and ensure equal opportunity for people with disabilities.

Chris Parker received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law and has an LL.M. degree in Taxation, a M.S. in Biomedical Science from Barry University, and B.S. in Biology from the University of Puget Sound. He is a member of California Attorneys in State Employment (CASE), the American and State Bar Associations, and the American Constitution Society.
