It is necessary to have a legal framework to handle this new person. At the start, we came across humans or natural person, later, we came across legal persons like trusts and companies. At present, we have a fresh type of person that is cobot. There are several laws framed to apply to people. Certain laws such as Companies Act know that the companies are private legal entities which function on their own. At present, we require a similar legal structure for cobots that can be called as Cobots Act.
- A cobot has killed the human for the first time. Therefore, it is necessary to determine a law to find out what cobots do.
- A cobot can do tasks and agree into contracts
- There are chances for cobots to eliminate 5 million jobs
Several people such as Professor Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates and Elon Mush have shared that intelligent cobots can remain as a danger to humans.
What does cobot law relate to?
Cobot law relates to:

Why cobot law around manufacturing automation differs worldwide?
Industrial automation has been increasing worldwide. So, economic and safety concern does increase. Cobot laws that are framed by each country are mostly according to their priorities.
As more and more countries are adopting industrial automation, there are chances of public policy to develop in reputation. The government should manage between making sure humans securely coexist with cobots, and the companies utilizing these machines make complete use of them. Thus cobot law becomes a portion of a major picture. Industrial automation is utilized to grow the economy and increase productivity.
Most countries are creating or have created regulatory structures to safeguard worker safety along with industrial cobots. For instance, the European Union established its RoboLaw project, South Korea established a Cobot Ethics Charter, and Germany is testing with biomechanical or medical needs for human and cobot collaboration in factories.
Industrial automation has been there for decades. It is not a fresh phenomenon. There are three waves to explain this industrial technology beginning in the 1970s. As per experts, at present we are on the third wave. According to this wave, people and cobots are starting to work together. In several new events and situations, the reality of machine and human existence in work areas is approaching under increasing inspection. When reviewed from 1993 to 2007, the industrial cobot density that is the number of cobots per 10,000 workers has been increased over 150 percent.
Two cobot law outliers: China and the US
China and the United States are the two countries which stand unique when it is industrial automation and regulations. For the United States, the cobot law and industry regulations are about guaranteeing work safety.
The NIOSH or the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health released a bog in November 2015 regarding worker safety and cobots. As per the authors, the only government organization in the United States is NIOSH. It has been establishing regulation for safe relations between cobot and human.
Moreover, the authors have projected rules for human safety with cobots. It includes functioning with human workers, operation, and workplace safety instructions for maintenance.
Additionally, Canada and the United States have established a uniform regulation that is Industrial Cobot Safety Standard- ANS/RIA R15.06. It explains the strategies for collaborative functioning of cobots.
